„I Choose My Future” Summer School Project aims to empower young people with fewer opportunities for active and gender-balanced citizenship and enhance their envisioning capacity and employability.
The project will take place in Sibiu County in the time-frame: 1 July – 31December 2011 and will involve an initiative group of 4 young people in our organization and especially recruited volunteers who will organize a summer school for 30 girls and boys (aged 16 to 18) from rural areas, with a special focus on young people who have grown up in placement centers or in poor and broken families.
Two educational camps will be carried out, focused on personal development using the methods of informal education and peer education. A key method used will be role playing, a method that involves the participant at all levels: physical, mental and emotional, providing deeper learning. The participants will learn how to set personal goals, how to seek employment, present themselves to interviews, build up personal networks and play an active role in the local community. In this context, a central European value will be promoted: gender equality, at work and at home.
By the end of the summer camp, each participant will have designed a personal plan for growth, deciding on a civic participation area which they would like to become better aquianted with.
As a follow up of the camp, the project will create specific opportunities for practical experiences such as: taking one group of young people to a meeting of the local council, visiting a treatment center for alcohol and drug addicts, attending the event of a local environmental group etc.
