This year during the European project The DAPHNE Initiative - JoinThe Net IV, A.L.E.G. will organise training sessions with the topic: Paust-traumatic stress disorders as a consequence of violence against girls and women - recognition, counselling and competent recommendations.

The team implementing this project was trained in Gottingen/Germany between 10-15 May 2009.

We will organise short training sessions of 3-4 hours with up to 10 participants/group. Groups will be made up social assistants, family doctors, policemen, paediatricians etc.

The training shall cover the following topics of interest:

• What is a psychic trauma?
• Which are the physical and psychical consequences of the traumatic result of violence against women and girls?
• How can we recognise the symptoms of troubles caused by post-traumatic stress?
• What should we consider in our relations with the victims traumatised by violence?
• How can we help? - How can we support and stabilise the victim? How should efficient counselling take place? Which are the institutions that we can recommend?
• What psychotherapy facilities are there?

Violence-related experiences are traumatic; each undealt with trauma may lead to serious health issues.

Research showed that victims of sexual violence are most affected by the post-traumatic stress disorders. The mental and physical consequences are complex. Because of the lack of information, the causes often remain unidentified and untreated. For many victims the consequences are years of going from one clinic or social service to the next.
